NOVAZ ( ITunes Visualizer Suite )
Posted February 8th, 2010 in Pretty Lights that Blink, Software, Space / High Things.NOVAZ is a suite of music visualizers I made that work in ITunes (Windows + Mac). As usual, it’s all about space.

I had this weird professor in college turned me on to Quartz Composer.
Quartz is essentially what the Mac graphics core is built on, giving you access to low level graphics processing and some fun / useless maths. “QC” is what is sometimes known colloquially as a “patching program”, as you program it by visually stringing patches together, much like the equally cool MaxMSP/Jitter.
I was drawn to QC because 1) you could make good stuff with it that blinked really nice if you knew your shit and 2) I didn’t have to steal it.
Watch more demo videos on my vimeo page.
More to come later, for now, DL ‘em all HERE:
VISUALIZERS: NUMBER 1 , NUMBER 2 , NUMBER 3 , NUMBER 4
Installing on Mac (10.4.1++)
(Haven’t figured Windows out quite yet, working on that!)
- [1] Use Finder to navigate to your home user folder
- [2] Locate the folder “Library” and enter it
- [3] Create a folder named “Compositions” (without quotes)
- [4] Place your “Visualizer_X.qtz” file inside the folder “Compositions”
- [5] If ITunes is open, restart it
- [6] Navigate to “View” then “Visualizer” and select the corresponding file from the list
- [7] Hit Apple + T to view (once the visualizer opens, hit Apple + F for Full-screen viewing)… hit Apple + T again to exit (but why would you want to?)
- [8] yeeeeeeeeeeeah boooy
- [9] Send me money! That’s the hardest step, but I know you’re up to it! You’re doing great so far
